Students in universities and colleges in Zamfara State are kicking off support for the re-election of President Bola Tinubu and Governor Dauda Lawal in the 2027 elections.

They mentioned the education efforts by the Federal and state governments as reasons for their backing.

The mobilisation is being led by the JAGABA/DAUDA Students’ Mandate 2027, Zamfara State chapter, through their new Campus Ambassadors Initiative.

Bilyaminu Badarawa, the convener, released a statement on Thursday saying the group will use this initiative to inform students about government programs and help in the education sector.

At the launch on Wednesday, Badarawa said, “We are here to launch a movement that will engage students with the developments taking place in the education sector. Our Campus Ambassadors will take this message to campuses across Zamfara, engage their fellow students and ensure that young people are properly informed about the programmes and interventions affecting their education and future.”

The group pointed out the Nigerian Education Loan Fund student-loan scheme as a key initiative from the Tinubu administration. They noted that NELFUND had processed over 1.6 million student-loan applications and disbursed more than N322 billion as of August 2026.

They also highlighted federal investments in technical and vocational education, research, infrastructure, and support for educational institutions.

At the state level, the group praised the Lawal administration for declaring a state of emergency in education, fixing schools, hiring teachers, paying outstanding WAEC and NECO debts, providing teaching materials, and supporting students.

Badarawa mentioned reforms in state-owned tertiary institutions and recent executive orders signed by Lawal aimed at improving education.

He said the group’s work would focus on showing “tangible and verifiable achievements” in education to students throughout the state.

“We cannot afford to return to a past where examination results were withheld, teachers were unpaid and classrooms collapsed. The JAGABA/DAUDA STUDENTS’ MANDATE 2027 is committed to ensuring that the voices of Zamfara students are heard and their interests protected,” he said.

The convener added that students have a role in shaping the state and country by participating in the electoral process.

“The future of Zamfara depends significantly on the quality of education available to its young people. Our responsibility as students and young citizens is to understand what is being done, engage constructively and make our voices heard,” Badarawa said.

The new Campus Ambassadors were tasked with grassroots mobilisation, educating voters, and connecting with students in tertiary institutions across Zamfara.

The group urged students and young people in the state to support Tinubu and Lawal in the upcoming 2027 elections.
