Zulum backs Kebbi governor for second term

Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Zulum, has backed the re-election of Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris. He called Idris a generous, hardworking, and visionary leader. Zulum believes he has the charisma, character, and ability to lead Kebbi for another four years.

Zulum spoke on Sunday in Maiduguri. This was during a visit from media aides of Governor Idris. The team was led by Kebbi State Commissioner for Information and Culture, Alhaji Yakubu Birnin Kebbi.

Zulum said Idris has shown the leadership needed to unite the people and boost development in Kebbi State. "I knew him during the campaign period of my second term. He is a comrade that I honour and respect. He is also a trusted man who accommodates people with one mind."

He added, "Leadership requires sacrifice, dedication, courage, and the ability to unite people across political, ethnic, and other divides. Governor Nasir Idris has demonstrated these qualities."

Zulum called on the people of Kebbi to support continuity in governance. He said, a full eight-year term would help the governor build on his achievements. "The people of Kebbi State should support him to complete his eight years. This will give him the chance to continue his good work and ensure growth in all sectors," he said.

He praised the Idris administration for its work in security, education, agriculture, healthcare, road infrastructure, and human capital development. "I know the efforts of the Kebbi State Governor because in my state, I also face the same problem, which is a big task ahead of us," Zulum said, referring to security issues in both states.

Zulum remembered his visit to Kebbi last year. He was impressed by the development he saw. He specifically praised the government for investing in education and healthcare, road construction, agriculture, and building a modern state secretariat and central motor park. He also mentioned empowerment programs for farmers, youths, and the elderly.

"These projects have direct impact on the lives of the people and show the commitment of the administration to people-oriented governance," he said.

Zulum further described Idris as a leader with "good manners, wisdom, and the ability to foster unity among the political class." He stressed that political unity is key for lasting development.

Earlier, Birnin Kebbi explained that the delegation was in Maiduguri to strengthen ties between Kebbi and Borno states. He said the visit would help Kebbi media officials learn from Borno’s experience in security management and public communication.

"Our visit is aimed at strengthening the existing relationship between Kebbi and Borno States. It will also give us a chance to learn from Borno’s experience, especially in security management and public communication," he said.

He recalled that the Shehu of Borno gave Idris the traditional title of Zannan Borno. He described this as "a symbol of the enduring friendship, collaboration, and unity between the people and governments of Kebbi and Borno States."

The commissioner talked about Kebbi’s efforts in education, healthcare, infrastructure, and agriculture. This includes the free distribution of fertiliser to farmers. He thanked Zulum for welcoming the delegation and supporting stronger cooperation between the two states.
