Several football stars, including Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, made history at the FIFA World Cup 2026 by breaking records.
FIFA shared these records on Tuesday, just two days after the final match between Spain and Argentina.
The list includes coaches, goalkeepers, and rising stars who hit major milestones during the tournament.
Here is the complete list of those who set new records:
1. Cristiano Ronaldo (Portugal)
Record: First player to score in six FIFA World Cup editions
The 41-year-old made history as the first footballer to score in six different World Cups. He also became the second-oldest goalscorer in World Cup history, only behind Cameroon’s Roger Milla.
2. Kylian Mbappe (France)
Record: All-time leading World Cup goalscorer (22 goals)
Mbappe surpassed Miroslav Klose to become the highest goalscorer in FIFA World Cup history. He finished with 22 career goals, just one ahead of Lionel Messi.
3. Lionel Messi (Argentina)
Record: Most World Cup victories (23)
Messi broke Miroslav Klose’s record by leading Argentina to seven straight wins during the tournament.
4. Lionel Messi (Argentina)
Record: Scored in most consecutive World Cup appearances (9)
The Argentine captain scored in nine straight World Cup matches, breaking the record of six consecutive matches held by Just Fontaine and Jairzinho.

Messi set a new record with seven long-range goals in the World Cup, surpassing Brazilian great Rivellino.

Olise broke Pele’s long-standing record of six assists in a single edition. He set up five of Mbappe’s goals.
8. Unai Simon (Spain)
Record: Most clean sheets in a single World Cup (7)
The Spain goalkeeper kept seven clean sheets in eight matches. He broke the previous record of five clean sheets held by Jan Jongbloed, Walter Zenga, Taffarel, Fabien Barthez, Oliver Kahn, Gianluigi Buffon, and Iker Casillas. Spain also allowed only one goal during the tournament, the fewest ever by a World Cup-winning team.
9. Eloy Room (Curaçao)
Record: Most saves in a World Cup match (16)
Room matched Tim Howard’s record of 16 saves but did it in 30 fewer minutes during Curaçao’s goalless draw with Ecuador.
10. Didier Deschamps (France)
Record: Coach with the most World Cup matches (26)
The France coach passed Germany’s Helmut Schon to become the manager with the most World Cup games. He is also the coach with the most World Cup wins.
11. Dick Advocaat (Curaçao)
Record: Oldest World Cup coach (78 years, 271 days)
The Dutchman became the oldest coach to ever manage a team at a FIFA World Cup.
12. Johan Manzambi (Switzerland)
Record: Youngest substitute to score a World Cup brace
At 20 years and 247 days, Manzambi became the youngest substitute to score two goals in a World Cup match.
13. Jude Bellingham & Harry Kane (England)
Record: First team-mates to score six goals each in one World Cup
The England duo became the first pair of team-mates to score six goals each in a single World Cup.
14. Ousmane Dembele & Kylian Mbappe (France)
Record: First team-mates to score six goals each in one World Cup
The French players matched the achievement of England’s Bellingham and Kane during the same tournament.
