A 14-year-old boy, whose name has not been released, has drowned while trying to get his shoes from a canal behind Millennium Park in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory.

CSP Ani Iniedu, the Force Public Relations Officer, confirmed this in a statement on Sunday. He highlighted the police force’s recent activities.

Iniedu said the incident happened on Saturday during a rainstorm.

According to the FPRO, the boy's body was found and taken to a hospital, where he was declared dead.

He explained, “Police received a report that a 14-year-old boy drowned in a canal behind Millennium Park while attempting to retrieve his shoe during rainfall. His body was recovered and rushed to a hospital, where he was confirmed dead.”

Iniedu mentioned that the boy’s father did not want an autopsy. He added that the police have started an investigation into the matter.

“The father declined an autopsy and requested the release of the corpse for burial, which was granted. CID Abuja is investigating,” he said.
