The Sapele area of Delta State is mourning after the body of a three-year-old boy, Master Lemuel, was found a day after he went missing in the Uko Road area of the town.
Residents are worried about child safety in the community. They are calling for a full investigation into how the boy died and are urging parents and neighbors to be more alert.
Our reporter learned from family sources on Thursday that Lemuel was playing with other kids on Monday. He was sent on an errand to buy something for his father.
Sources say Lemuel was not feeling well when he left for the errand. When he did not return home, his parents, relatives, and neighbors started searching for him.
As the hours passed without any news, his father went to the Gana Police Station to officially report his son missing and ask for help.
The search continued into the night but sadly ended the next morning when Lemuel’s lifeless body was found near the family home.
Our reporter learned that a suspect has been arrested in connection with the case. Investigators are looking into what happened to the child before he died.
The Sapele Local Government Council has sent their condolences to the grieving family. They are also calling for a complete investigation into the matter.
The council chairman, Hon. Bright Abeke, was represented by Hon. Raymond Overah, the Secretary to the Local Government. They visited the family to offer their support.
Speaking for the chairman, Overah said he was very sorry about the boy's death. He promised the family that the council would help find out what happened.
He said the chairman has ordered security agencies to speed up their investigation. They should find anyone involved and ensure they face justice.
"The council is deeply saddened by this tragic loss. We urge the security agencies to thoroughly investigate the circumstances surrounding the death and ensure that anyone found responsible is brought to justice," Overah said.
He also encouraged residents to stay alert and report any suspicious people, movements, or activities to the security agencies.
The council’s support comes as residents continue to gather around the grieving family. Many are shocked that such a young child could fall victim to such a tragedy.
