The Anambra State Police has arrested a 16-year-old boy over an alleged robbery at a hotel in Amansea, Awka North Local Government Area.
The suspect, Udochukwu Nwankwo, was caught by officers from the B Division, Amansea, during a security patrol early on Wednesday.
The police also found a shiny metallic lighter that looked like a gun. The suspect reportedly used this to threaten a hotel guest and take her belongings.
SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the state Police Public Relations Officer, shared this information in a statement on Wednesday.
He said, "Officers from the Anambra State Police Command at B Division, Amansea, arrested Udochukwu Nwankwo, a 16-year-old male suspect, during a security patrol on September 2, 2026, related to an armed robbery in Amansea, Awka North Local Government Area.
“The officers also found a shiny metallic lighter that resembled a pistol. The suspect allegedly used it to threaten and take valuables from the victim.
“Initial reports show that the suspect and two other accomplices, who are still on the run, attacked a hotel guest and stole her mobile phone and other personal items.
“During questioning, the suspect reportedly admitted to using the fake gun to scare victims during the robbery.”
Ikenga mentioned that the police are working hard to investigate further and catch the other suspects.
He also said they are trying to recover the stolen phone and other items. The police want to make sure everyone involved faces justice.
