The Anambra State Police have disrupted a suspected cult meeting on Abagana Street, Fegge, Onitsha. This followed reliable information received by officers at Fegge Police Station.
SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the spokesman for the Anambra State Police Command, shared this news in a statement on Sunday.
Ikenga said officers arrested a 25-year-old suspect during the operation. Other members of his group managed to escape.
He stated, "Acting swiftly on the information, the operatives moved to the location and arrested Chinedu Ike, male, aged 25 years, while other persons suspected to be members of the group reportedly fled on sighting the Police."
"During preliminary interrogation, the arrested suspect allegedly admitted to being a member of the Vikings Confraternity."
The police have started efforts to find the other suspects who ran away. They want to track them down and see if they are involved in cult activities or other crimes in the area.
In another update, the Commissioner of Police for Anambra, CP Nnanna Ama, has ordered the case to be moved to the Violence and Cult-Related Crimes Unit. They will investigate further and take necessary action.
The CP emphasized that the Command will keep using smart policing to stop cult activities. They want to prevent violence and ensure that anyone involved in such crimes is brought to justice.
"The Command therefore urges members of the public to remain vigilant and provide credible information that may assist the Police in identifying and apprehending the fleeing suspects," the statement ended.
