Anambra Police Arrest Suspected Kidnapper Linked to Murder Case

The Anambra State Police have arrested a 25-year-old man named Olisa Oyelu, also called "Obele". He is suspected of being involved in kidnapping and armed robbery related to a 2023 case that led to the death of a victim.

A press statement from the Anambra State Police Command was shared on Thursday. SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the police spokesman, said the arrest came after thorough intelligence work and careful investigation by police officers.

Ikenga mentioned that officers from the State Criminal Investigation Department took Oyelu into custody in the early hours of Wednesday. He said the suspect is believed to have been an active member of a gang that carried out the kidnapping.

This gang is reportedly led by a criminal known as ‘Pincode’. Ikenga noted that after the investigation is complete, they will transfer Oyelu to a correctional centre. Pincode and four other gang members are already there, waiting for their court judgement.

The statement said, "The Anambra State Police Command Operatives attached to the State Criminal Investigation Department in the early hours of September 23 have arrested Olisa Oyelu alias ‘Obele’ ‘M’, aged 25 years, the last identified member of the notorious armed robbery and kidnapping gang led by a suspected criminal known as ‘Pincode’, in connection with a 2023 kidnapping incident which resulted in the death of the victim.

The Command, at the conclusion of the investigative proceedings, shall hand over Olisa Oyelu to the Correctional Centre where Pincode and four others are already remanded, awaiting the judgement of the court. The arrest followed sustained intelligence gathering and painstaking investigation by Police operatives.

The suspect is alleged to have been an active member of the gang involved in the kidnapping operation. After the incident, the Police began a thorough investigation to identify, arrest, and prosecute everyone connected to the crime.

The Command states that this arrest is a big step in the ongoing investigation. They are committed to ensuring that everyone involved in the crime faces the law.

Meanwhile, CP Nnanna Ama, the Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, praised the officers for their hard work and smart approach to the investigation.

Ama assured the people of Anambra that the Police will keep going after criminals within and outside the State until they are caught. He also urged the public to keep giving the Police reliable and timely information, reminding everyone that security is a shared duty.
