The Osun Central Senatorial candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, Nathaniel Oduyemi, has asked voters in Osun State to think carefully about their political choices before the 2027 elections. This comes after Governor Ademola Adeleke decided to head President Bola Tinubu’s campaign council in the state.

Oduyemi pointed out that this situation raises concerns about political representation and accountability. He urged residents to look closely at the records, policies, and promises of political parties before deciding who to support.

In a statement released on Thursday, he said that the economic hardship many Nigerians are facing, such as rising living costs, unemployment, and challenges for businesses, needs real solutions instead of political slogans.

“The hardship Nigerians are experiencing under the present administration cannot be dismissed with political slogans or empty promises,” he stated.

Oduyemi mentioned that families are struggling to buy basic necessities. He added that businesses are grappling with increasing operating costs. He emphasized that there is a need for transparent governance and policies that would actually improve living standards.

He noted that Adeleke’s partnership with Tinubu makes it important for the people of Osun to understand what this means for their expectations and democratic choices. “The people of Osun have a legitimate right to ask what this political alignment means for the promises made to them and the mandate they gave at the polls,” he said.

Oduyemi encouraged voters to look at the records and programs of the All Progressives Congress and the Accord Party. He stressed that political choices should be based on policies that can tackle poverty, unemployment, insecurity, poor infrastructure, and the high cost of living.

He called for a change from politics focused on individuals to governance based on competence, integrity, and measurable performance. “Our communities need innovative policies, stronger support for agriculture and small businesses, accessible healthcare, quality education, reliable infrastructure, and employment opportunities that offer young people a genuine stake in the future,” he said.

Oduyemi described the NDC as a different platform that focuses on inclusive development, accountability, and the welfare of ordinary Nigerians. “Nigerians deserve a political alternative that listens to their concerns and treats public office as a responsibility rather than a personal entitlement,” he added.

He urged residents of Osun to get involved in the democratic process, scrutinize campaign promises, and evaluate candidates based on their records and proposed solutions. “Our votes are a powerful instrument of accountability, and our collective future must never be surrendered to political convenience,” he said.
