The police in Benue State have arrested a 23-year-old man named Abdullahi Usman in connection with the murder of a lecturer at Benue State University, Professor Gabriel Nyityo.
DSP Udeme Edet, the spokesperson for the police command, shared this news in a statement on Thursday. The statement was made available to journalists in Makurdi.
The Police Public Relations Officer explained that officers from D Division responded to a distress call along the Adaka route. When they arrived, they discovered two dead bodies.
"One Prof. Gabriel Saawua Nyityo, 58 years old, and his younger brother, John Nyityo, 19 years old, were killed by unknown gunmen.
"The suspect, Abdullahi Usman, 23, from Awe in Nasarawa State, has been arrested for this crime. The investigation is ongoing to catch the other suspects," the PPRO stated.
Professor Nyityo and his younger brother were reportedly killed in their home in the Adaka community, located in the Makurdi Local Government Area, early on Wednesday morning.
Even though lecturers at the state university are on strike, the murder of Prof. Nyityo from the History Department has shocked both the Adaka community and the university community.
