The Nigerian Army has started its 2026 Captain-to-Major Practical Promotion Examination in Jos, Plateau State. A total of 259 officers are taking part in this five-day exercise.
The examination began on Monday and will run until 9 October. It aims to check the skills of officers who want to move up to the rank of major.
The Examination President and Commander of the Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC), Peter Malla, a major general, warned the candidates about cheating. He said they must keep the process honest.
Mr Malla gave this warning while speaking to the 259 candidates and the Directing Staff at the start of the exercise. He mentioned that experienced officers designed the examination to ensure a fair and tough assessment based on the approved syllabus.
He explained that the exercise follows the Nigerian Army Charter for Promotion Examinations 2022 (Revised). Mr Malla urged the candidates to face the exam with discipline and focus. He said there are no shortcuts to achieving success.
He added that how they perform in the exams will affect their chances of being selected for Junior Command and Staff Colleges within Nigeria and abroad. The examination is part of the army’s program for developing officers and getting them ready for higher command and staff roles.
The General Officer Commanding 3 Division of the Nigerian Army, Maxwell Dangana, promised a good environment for the exams. He said the division would offer all the support needed for a successful examination in Jos.
Mr Dangana also emphasized the division’s commitment to professional military education and helping officers prepare for bigger responsibilities. The Army is focused on keeping the exams honest as it works to raise professional standards and skills among its officers through these promotion exams and military training.
