The Abia State Government has given out ₦1.2 billion to help 81 vulnerable groups. This money will go towards medical help and other support programs.
The state Commissioner for Information, Okey Kanu, shared this news on Monday. He spoke with reporters after the State Executive Council meeting in Umuahia.
Mr Kanu mentioned that the money was distributed between January and June 2026. This was part of efforts by the State Ministry of Poverty Alleviation and Social Protection.
He said this action is part of the state government’s plan to improve the lives of vulnerable people in the area.
The support includes medical help, housing for people with disabilities, emergency housing for disaster victims, and educational aid for poor students.
He explained that the ministry is always looking for and checking on those who need medical and humanitarian help. The current administration has been quick to approve requests to support the needy.
Mr Kanu also noted that regular monitoring and follow-up visits to those who received help have made sure the funds are used properly. This has led to a refund of ₦20.9 million back to the state treasury.
