The Accord Party has announced Prof. Christopher Imumolen as its presidential candidate for the 2027 elections. This decision came after a consensus vote at the party’s National Presidential Primary Election.
Muktar Abdullah, the National Secretary of the Accord Party, shared this news with journalists in Abuja on Thursday. He explained that the primary election took place in Lagos and resulted in Professor Christopher Imumolen being chosen as the party's candidate. Party leaders see his selection as proof of strong support across Nigeria. They believe he can offer Nigerians a credible alternative in leadership.
In the statement, Abdullah said, "In a definitive bid to chart a new, progressive path for our great nation ahead of the upcoming 2027 general elections, the Accord Party has officially elected Prof. Christopher Imumolen as its presidential candidate." Abdullah noted that Imumolen was chosen through a consensus vote, showing the united support from party members across different regions and age groups during the primary election in Lagos.
Delegates from all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory attended the convention. They gathered to choose the party’s candidate.
Abdullah highlighted, "His candidacy enjoys immense structural backing, driven significantly by a strong representation from the party’s younger demographic, who view him as the face of modern Nigerian leadership." As the youngest candidate in the 2023 election, Prof. Imumolen is entering the 2027 race with more experience, established grassroots connections, and broad national appeal.
He is described as a capable leader, a successful entrepreneur, and a well-known philanthropist. Abdullah stated that he has the vision needed to tackle Nigeria’s problems and guide the country towards growth.
Abdullah also mentioned that the Accord Party will soon present a detailed socio-economic plan to solve Nigeria's challenges. In his acceptance speech, Prof. Imumolen expressed gratitude to the delegates for their backing. He promised to run an inclusive campaign focused on important issues.
Prof. Imumolen said, "Today, what we have done here is to have our primaries for the presidential candidate, which have been successfully conducted. I have rightfully emerged as the candidate for Accord. The list will now be submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission, and we await their official publication of the candidates later this September."
He committed that an Accord-led Federal Government will directly address the serious problem of unemployment, tackle widespread insecurity, and restructure the economy to lift millions out of poverty.
The Accord Party is calling on all concerned Nigerians, especially young people and professionals, to join efforts with the party’s true candidate as they work towards building a nation that works for everyone.
