The Adamawa State governorship candidate for the Allied Peoples Movement, Abdurahman Haske, sees agriculture as a vital area for boosting the state's economy. He believes it can create jobs for the many young people in the state.
At a dinner he hosted for journalists in Yola, the capital of Adamawa, on Wednesday, Haske explained that mechanised agriculture would change the economic situation for young people and help raise the state’s revenue for faster development.
Haske shared his seven-point agenda aimed at tackling issues affecting youths, women, and older people. He called these groups vulnerable due to poor economic management.
While unveiling the agenda, Haske said it includes “Agriculture and Agro Industry: Building a ₦300bn export-oriented economy, creating one million jobs, and establishing a ₦200bn agricultural guarantee fund.”
Development and Infrastructure
On the topic of development and infrastructure, he proposed better road networks, with a goal of fixing 25 kilometres of roads every year in each local government area. He also wants to upgrade schools and other public facilities.
In terms of social development, he promised to expand social support programs. This includes health insurance coverage for one million residents.
The candidate also wants to encourage youth involvement in governance, leadership, and economic programs. He believes this is key for true youth inclusion.
On governance, he assured voters of a transparent administration focused on citizens. He aims to bridge gaps between gender, ethnic, and religious groups.
His plan for wealth creation and economic empowerment will support entrepreneurship and small to medium-sized businesses. He also aims to empower women and young people.
Focus on Security
The last part of the agenda is about security. However, he did not provide full details on the proposed measures in the statement.
Haske said he did not enter politics for personal gain. He is motivated by the hardship faced by the people of Adamawa.
He promised that his administration would provide social protection services to enhance the dignity of all residents in Adamawa.
Haske also called on journalists to stick to the ethics of their profession. He asked them to help protect democracy from greedy politicians.
“You are the soldiers to protect our democracy. Without you, we are in trouble. Make sure that honesty and fairness are your watchwords,” he said.
He praised Governor Ahmadu Fintiri for the infrastructure development under his administration. However, he mentioned that his own government would take a different path to solve the state’s problems.
