The Adekunle Gold Foundation (AGF), a non-profit group focused on sickle cell disease awareness, and global financial platform Pesa have started a $20,000 initiative. This fund is to help people living with sickle cell across four countries.
The foundation was set up by singer Adekunle “Adekunle Gold” Kosoko. They announced the “We’re Not Done” initiative in a statement released to PREMIUM TIMES on Thursday.
The funding will go to four organisations: Sickle Cell Advocacy Management Initiative in Nigeria, Not Just You in Canada, Sickle Life in Ghana, and It Takes A Village in the United Kingdom.
These organisations will use the funds to improve healthcare access, strengthen support for patients, enhance public education, and boost awareness and advocacy campaigns.
The initiative will also provide resources to help these groups expand their current work and reach more people in the sickle cell community.
“Awareness into action”
The singer said this initiative aims to support groups doing important work in communities. He highlighted the need to support their efforts instead of just talking about the issue.
The 39-year-old, who has shared his own experiences with sickle cell disease, said “We’re Not Done” is about changing public awareness into real action.
He stated: “We’re Not Done is about turning awareness into action. Incredible organisations are working every day to improve the lives of people living with sickle cell, and together with Pesa, we want to give them more resources to do that work and reach even more people.”
Pesa
Pesa’s Head of Global Growth and Marketing, Tosin Olaniyi, said their platform joined this initiative to help launch and support the first impact cycle.
She mentioned the wide-reaching effects of sickle cell, saying it impacts many individuals in Nigeria and across Black communities.
“These are our friends, colleagues, and loved ones. Adekunle Gold has shown how a personal connection to an issue can drive real change, and we’re proud to support the launch of We’re Not Done, an initiative focused on raising awareness and supporting the sickle cell community.
“Through our partnership with the AG Foundation and the other participating foundations, we hope to go beyond awareness and provide real support for individuals and families impacted by sickle cell,” she added.
According to her, AGF and Pesa aim to address the broader challenges faced by the sickle cell community. Their plan is to combine funding, advocacy, and visibility in one platform to achieve lasting, measurable impact.
