Ademola Adeleke, the Accord Party candidate and current governor of Osun State, is in an early lead in the ongoing governorship election. Results from 15 out of the state’s 30 Local Government Areas have been counted.

The results from these 15 LGAs show that Mr Adeleke has gained 283,235 votes. His closest rival, Bola Oyebamiji from the All Progressives Congress (APC), has received 216,003 votes.

Najeem Salaam, the candidate from the African Democratic Congress (ADC), is in third place with 11,196 votes.

These numbers reveal that Mr Adeleke is leading Mr Oyebamiji by 67,232 votes. There are still results from the remaining 15 LGAs to be counted.

The 15 LGAs where results have been announced include Aiyedire, Atakunmosa East, Ede North, Ede South, Egbedore, Ejigbo, Ife Central, Ife South, Irepodun, Isokan, Iwo, Obokun, Ola-Oluwa, Oriade, and Osogbo.

Mr Adeleke performed especially well in his home area of Ede North. He received 35,427 votes compared to Mr Oyebamiji’s 10,283 votes.

He also won in Ede South with 21,188 votes, Iwo with 27,085 votes, and Osogbo with 36,480 votes. A separate report from Premium Times confirmed Mr Adeleke’s win in Osogbo, where he led Mr Oyebamiji by 6,006 votes.

Mr Oyebamiji did win in some areas that have been declared. For example, he took Obokun, defeating Mr Adeleke by 4,097 votes.

These results are still provisional, and collation is ongoing across the state. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will announce the final results after all 30 LGAs have been counted and confirmed.

The final collation and announcement of results began around 2:35 a.m. in Osogbo.
