The National Treasurer of the Peoples Democratic Party, Mr Diran Odeyemi, has said that the re-election of Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, shows that the people trust his government.

Also, a former candidate for the Osun East Senatorial District, Samuel Oyedotun, called Adeleke’s victory “divinely arranged.”

Odeyemi and Oyedotun made these comments in separate statements on Monday. They were reacting to Adeleke’s win in Saturday’s governorship election.

PUNCH Online reports that Adeleke was declared the winner on Sunday. He won in 19 out of the 30 local government areas in Osun State during the election held on Saturday.

The State Returning Officer, Prof Joshua Ogunwole, who is also the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti, announced the result at around 7:24 am on Sunday.

Adeleke received 511,067 votes to win the election.

After Adeleke’s victory, the PDP National Treasurer said, “The victory is a confirmation of the people’s trust in his administration. The outcome of the poll reflected the will of Osun people who came out in large numbers to renew the mandate given to the governor in 2022. The poll was peaceful and largely transparent despite the tension that preceded the election.”

Odeyemi commended the Independent National Electoral Commission and security agencies for their work during the election. He said their professionalism helped to build public trust in the process.

The PDP leader also praised party members, supporters, and stakeholders in Osun for their hard work before, during, and after the election. He urged Adeleke to see his re-election as a chance to do more for the people, especially in infrastructure, workers’ welfare, youth empowerment, and economic development.

On the other hand, Oyedotun, in his congratulatory message, said Adeleke’s re-election confirmed that no amount of manipulation could change a mandate freely given by the people.

The former Chairman of the Osun State Water Corporation Board thanked the voters for choosing Adeleke over other candidates. He added that the governor’s second term would bring more development to the state.

“The victory of Governor Ademola Adeleke is divinely arranged. It is an act of God and made possible by the collective decision of Osun people who came out en masse to defend their mandate. Let me congratulate Osun people for their peaceful conduct despite reports of tension in some areas. You are truly the heroes, and I want you to keep supporting Governor Adeleke and the Accord Party,” Oyedotun said.

He also highlighted the important roles played by INEC and security agencies in ensuring the election was successful. He said they made sure votes were counted and results were shared transparently.

Oyedotun called on all political players, including the opposition, to accept the election results in good faith. He asked them to support the current administration in providing the benefits of democracy.

“Osun belongs to all of us. Now that the people have spoken, we must put our differences aside and work together for the progress of our dear state,” he said.
