Tinubu congratulates Adeleke on his re-election in Osun State

President Bola Tinubu has praised Governor Ademola Adeleke’s re-election in the Osun State governorship election. He said this shows that democracy will keep growing in Nigeria.

Tinubu made this known in a statement on Sunday. His Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, released the statement after Adeleke's victory in the August 15 election.

The President mentioned that he called Adeleke to congratulate him on this win. He added that the election result shows the trust the people of Osun have in their governor.

“I called Governor Ademola Adeleke earlier today to congratulate him on his election victory in Osun State. His victory once again confirmed the confidence the people of Osun State have in him.

“I wish him great success as he prepares to lead the state for the next four years. Now that he has won, Governor Adeleke must unite the people of Osun State and rally them for growth, stability, and social and economic progress, regardless of the political choices they made at the election.

“I salute the courage and discipline displayed by other contestants in the election. Their participation deepened and enriched our country’s democratic culture. The outcome of the election reflects the will of the people and is a fitting assurance that democracy will continue to flourish in our land,” Tinubu said.

The President also praised the Independent National Electoral Commission and security agencies. He said they conducted a peaceful and transparent election that gave a clear winner.

Adeleke, the Accord Party candidate, was announced as the winner of the election around 7:24am on Sunday. The State Returning Officer, Prof. Joshua Ogunwole, who is the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti, made the announcement.

Adeleke received 511,067 votes to beat his closest rival, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress, who got 444,815 votes. Adeleke won 19 out of the state’s 30 local government areas, while Oyebamiji won 11. The African Democratic Congress candidate, Najeem Salaam, came in third with 17,180 votes.

This victory gives Adeleke a second term after he was first elected governor in 2022 with the Peoples Democratic Party. He switched to the Accord Party for the 2026 election.

Earlier on Sunday, Adeleke thanked Tinubu for his congratulatory call. He also confirmed his support for the President's second term bid in the 2027 presidential election, calling him a son of Osun State.
