President Bola Tinubu has sent his congratulations to Governor Biodun Oyebanji on his win in Saturday's Ekiti State governorship election.

The President praised the people of Ekiti State for what he called their "peaceful and orderly conduct, and for putting their trust in Oyebanji."

In a statement released on Sunday by the President's Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu also thanked security agencies for keeping peace during the election.

He urged the Independent National Electoral Commission to keep working on ensuring peaceful, free, fair, and credible elections ahead of the Osun governorship election in August and the 2027 general elections.

"With his impressive victory in the election, Oyebanji has become the first governor in Ekiti State's history to win re-election consecutively," the statement said.

The President highlighted that Oyebanji’s first term saw important progress in areas like infrastructure, agriculture, youth employment, education, healthcare, and rural development through the BAO agenda.

He said the renewed mandate shows "a clear vote of confidence in continuity, stability, and people-centered governance."

Tinubu encouraged the governor to be generous in victory and to involve all stakeholders in building on his achievements over the next four years.

He also recognized the other candidates in the election, saying it is now time for them to support the governor for the good of Ekiti State.

"The President also commends everyone who ran against the governor for exercising their democratic rights, adding that it is now time to unite behind Oyebanji to advance Ekiti's governance," the statement continued.

PUNCH Online reported that INEC on Sunday declared Oyebanji of the All Progressives Congress as the winner of the Ekiti State governorship election.

The governor was re-elected after receiving 319,224 votes, defeating his closest rivals from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, Olumayokun Oluyede, and the African Democratic Congress, Dare Bejide, across the state’s 16 local governments.

Tinubu reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to working with the Ekiti State Government to provide more benefits to the people under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

He also prayed for wisdom, strength, and good health for the governor as he continues to serve the people of Ekiti State.
