Adeleke's Team Calls for Honors for Victims of Election Violence

The Imole Campaign Council wants state honors for those affected by election violence in Osun State. They believe this will recognize the sacrifices of supporters of Governor Ademola Adeleke who faced attacks during the ongoing governorship campaign.

On Thursday, the council shared a statement on its Facebook page. Spokesman Pelumi Olajengbesi signed the statement. They alleged that members of the Accord Party and supporters of Adeleke were killed, injured, kidnapped, or detained because of their political beliefs and support for his re-election.

The council mentioned several names of victims. They included Kolade Eluyera, killed in Ikire on May 8, 2026; Ezekiel Olapade, murdered in Ilobu on June 21, 2026; Ajayi Rogba, killed in Ẹsa-Òkè on June 23, 2026; and Timilehin Oni, who was shot last month.

They also listed Asimiyu Ajibola, Samuel Saliu, Taofeek Saka, Lawal Habeeb, Adeyemi Toheeb, Monday Fidelis, Ramoni Kamolideen, Kamar Aola, and John Matthew among those they said were killed or injured while backing Adeleke’s campaign.

The council reported that over 100 campaign coordinators and supporters have been arrested recently. They said these arrests aim to disrupt Adeleke's re-election efforts.

"The last few weeks have also witnessed the persecution and arbitrary detention of over 100 other focal campaigners of Adeleke by the police, in a desperate attempt to cripple grassroots mobilisation for the governor’s re-election on August 15, 2026," the statement said.

They condemned what they called the assassination, persecution, and intimidation of their members. They asked the Nigeria Police Force to act fairly and professionally.

While they understood that no honor could replace the losses suffered by the victims and their families, they insisted that those who paid the “supreme price” deserve official recognition from the state.

"Although no recognition or compensation can measure up to the level of sacrifice of the victims of APC-sponsored attacks, the Imole Campaign Council finds it imperative and deserving that persons who have paid different kinds of sacrifices, even the supreme price, against oppression and repression, whilst demonstrating their support for the governor’s re-election, be accorded state honours. Their sacrifices are not in vain," the statement added.

The council promised to share more details about the proposed state honors soon.
