The Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, inaugurated the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Election Campaign Council, directorates, and sub-committees on Saturday.
At the International Culture and Event Centre in Akure, the state capital, Aiyedatiwa urged members to come together and support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.
He said unity and teamwork, which helped the APC win in 2015, are still very important for success. He warned that being Nigeria’s and Africa’s biggest political party won’t guarantee victory if the party is not united.
Aiyedatiwa reminded members to learn from the divisions in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He said internal disagreements could hurt the APC's chances in Ondo State.
The governor emphasized, “These coming elections would involve the President, senators, members of the House of Representatives, governors, except in some states, and members of state Houses of Assembly.
“As large or as big as we are, if we are not together, it will be difficult to win the elections. That is why it’s very, very important that we must remain united.
“We must learn from that, particularly here in our state. We must all work together.
“The APC’s formation in 2014 involved the alliance of New PDP, Action Congress of Nigeria, Action Congress of Democrats and other legacy parties which enabled the progressives to defeat the PDP in 2015.”
Aiyedatiwa stressed that keeping power is vital to protecting the interests of party members and their communities. He urged everyone to work together for victory.
“It’s only when we retain power, that is when your own individual interests and your community interests can be met. All of us must work together,” he said.
The Deputy Governor, Olayide Adelami, also spoke. He asked APC members to work hard to secure one million votes for Tinubu in 2027. He said this target depends on members reaching every household and community with house-to-house and street-to-street campaigns.
Adelami encouraged women, men, youths, elders, and other groups to get involved. He called Tinubu a visionary leader who keeps his promises.
He expressed confidence that “the President would provide the necessary resources for the campaign” and urged party members to go back to their constituencies to mobilise voters.
The Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Olamide Oladiji, also spoke. He urged APC leaders to work for Tinubu’s re-election and reminded them that Ondo State is known for winning elections.
He called on party leaders and residents to return to their areas and work for a strong victory. Oladiji said Aiyedatiwa has shown he is ready to support them and believes Ondo State will deliver for Tinubu in 2027.
Earlier, the state APC Chairman, Kolawole Babatunde, welcomed everyone and charged the campaign committees to reach every part of the state, engage residents, and mobilise voters.
He was confident the party would achieve its goal of one million votes based on its performance at state and national levels.
He mentioned that the Aiyedatiwa administration has completed more than 50 road projects, with over 50 more ongoing, citing details shared by the commissioner for infrastructure during the commissioning of the Akure flyover.
