Sudanese team Al Ahly Wad Madani has officially announced Nigerian coach Aliyu Zubair as their new head coach for the 2026/27 season.
Zubair recently signed a two-year contract with the Sudanese club after leaving Telecom SC, a team in Egypt's second division.
He was introduced on Friday at a ceremony in Kigali, Rwanda, where Al Ahly Wad Madani is getting ready for the upcoming CAF Confederation Cup.
After his unveiling, Zubair shared his excitement about leading the historic club while recognizing the high expectations that come with the job.
"Al Ahly Madani is another huge challenge for me. It is a great club with rich history and high ambitions," Zubair said.
"I am looking forward to working with the players, the management and the fans to achieve our objectives, especially as the team prepares to compete in the CAF Confederation Cup."
The former Flying Eagles coach will now start working with the team as they prepare in Kigali, focusing on their continental campaign.
His first task will be to lead Al Ahly Wad Madani in the CAF Confederation Cup, where they will meet Kenyan team Tusker in the first preliminary round.
This new role marks another significant step in Zubair's coaching career. He has previously coached Nigerian clubs Gombe United and El-Kanemi Warriors.
One of his biggest achievements was with El-Kanemi Warriors in 2024 when he led the Maiduguri side to win the Federation Cup.
Zubair hopes to use his experience from Nigeria to help Al Ahly Wad Madani succeed both locally and on the continent.
