Chidi Chidebe, the chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Anambra State, has stepped down from his role effective 27 August.

Mr Chidebe shared his decision in a letter dated 27 August. He sent this letter to the chairman of the PDP’s Interim National Working Committee on Thursday.

He was elected as chairman in Anambra during a Congress on 24 October 2024.

Mr Chidebe explained that he chose to resign after talking extensively with his family, close friends, and trusted party members.

He said the ongoing disagreements and legal issues around the party’s national leadership made it hard for him to do his job as state chairman.

Mr Chidebe thanked God for the chance to serve, as well as the PDP state executive committee, local government chairpersons, ward executives, and party supporters for their backing during his time in office.

"Having given the matter considerable thought and having served to the best of my ability, I believe that stepping aside at this point is in the best interest of my personal peace, and the party at large," he said.

He added that being the chairman of the PDP was a privilege. He mentioned that the experiences and friendships he gained during his time in office were significant.
