The police in Anambra State have shared new details about Anulika Onyeanusia, a 36-year-old woman arrested for using a sex toy on her eight-year-old daughter.
Earlier reports said that Mrs Onyeanusia was arrested on September 11 over this shocking incident.
The police say she is under investigation for child pornography.
The couple lives in Onitsha. Police found sex toys and other items at their home that will help with the ongoing investigation.
Police also rescued four other children, aged two, three, six, and nine, from the suspect's home.
This newspaper previously reported that Ikechukwu Onyeanusia, the suspect’s husband, claimed he had no idea his wife was abusing their children.
Mrs Onyeanusia later confessed that she made $700 by posting videos of her children online.
This case has stirred outrage among Nigerians. Many are calling for serious action against this crime.
Latest Developments
On Thursday, police spokesperson Tochukwu Ikenga announced that the police have finished their investigation.
“The Command has investigated the case and forwarded the case file to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for necessary legal action,” said Mr Ikenga, a superintendent of police.
He added, “The suspect is currently in police custody, pending further proceedings.”
The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, Nnanna Ama, emphasized the commitment to protect children and vulnerable people from abuse.
Mr Ama assured that the police will ensure that victims of sexual assault are treated with respect and care during the investigation and legal process.
