APC Forgives Members Ahead of 2027 Elections

The Abia chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has decided to forgive its members who made mistakes ahead of the 2027 general elections.

But the party said it will not tolerate any future acts of indiscipline, disloyalty, or anti-party behavior among its members.

This decision came after a meeting to review the party's primaries and discuss reconciliation. The meeting took place at the party secretariat in Umuahia on Sunday.

Uzor Azubuike, who is the APC candidate for Aba North/South Federal Constituency, moved the motion for forgiveness. He said unity is important, and all members should be forgiven.

Azubuike explained that forgiveness is essential to protect the party's chances in the upcoming elections. He encouraged members to let go of past issues and work together, whether they have been loyal or made mistakes before.

Emmanuel Ndubuisi, who represents Bende South in the Abia State House of Assembly, seconded the motion.

Earlier in the meeting, Chijioke Chukwu, the APC State Chairman, said the party's primaries were the best in Abia's political history. He urged members who are angry to forgive each other and to take their complaints through the right party channels instead of the media.

"Let’s chart a new course together. We cannot take over this state in disunity," Chukwu said.

He warned members who are backing other political parties to stop. He emphasized that such actions would not be accepted anymore.

Chukwu also made it clear that the APC would not form any alliances with other parties. He encouraged members to stay focused on the party’s goals and programs in Abia.

Regarding Orji Kalu and Chris Nkwonta, Chukwu said the State Working Committee (SWC) chose reconciliation instead of punishment after talking to them privately.

Kalu is the senator for Abia North District, and Nkwonta represents Ukwa East/Ukwa West in the House of Representatives.

Chukwu stated that both leaders said their actions were due to unhappiness with party processes, not a desire to harm the APC.

On August 10, the SWC had given a 14-day deadline over comments made by Kalu and Nkwonta that were seen as anti-party, supporting Governor Alex Otti’s 2027 political ambitions. Otti is running for reelection as Abia governor under the Labour Party.

The committee called those comments embarrassing and harmful to party unity while they work to mobilize across the state’s 184 wards.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the party later set up a Peace and Reconciliation Committee led by Madukwe Ukaegbu.

This committee has 10 days to visit all 184 wards and help resolve issues among members to strengthen party unity.
