The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has praised the state Police Command. They stopped an alleged assassination attempt on Wole Oke, who is the Director-General of the party's Governorship Campaign Council.

On Thursday, the police showed off a disc jockey named Olalekan Oriyomi and two other suspects. They are accused of trying to kill Oke in Ipetu Ijesa. The other suspects are Ayotunde Ikupolati, 44, and Femi Fakinleye, 31. The police also found an English Beretta pistol with four live rounds of ammunition from one suspect.

In a statement signed by Kola Olabisi, the party's Director of Media and Publicity, the Osun APC appreciated the police for acting quickly against criminals in the state.

"If the suspected assassins had succeeded, the state would have faced more mourning. The liars in the state would blame our party before the police even finish their investigation.

We trust the police to investigate this assassination attempt on our Director-General. We want them to find, arrest, and prosecute everyone involved in this crime," the statement said.

The party also raised a serious question. "Should the state turn into a killing ground just because a governor wants re-election? The people have rejected him due to his poor performance over the last three years.

Is it necessary to force leadership on people who want better for the state?" they asked.

The APC also noted their disappointment that the state governor, Ademola Adeleke, and the state chairman of the Accord party, Victor Akande, have not condemned the assassination attempt on Oke days after it happened.

"While we commend the police, we urge them to continue their work. They must rid the state of political thugs and investigate the influential people mentioned by the arrested suspects. These suspects are talking during police questioning.

Our loyal members should keep campaigning for our governorship candidate, Asiwaju Oyebamiji, as we approach the August 15, 2026 governorship election, which we believe he can win," the APC added.
