The Assistant Inspector-General of Police for Zone 11 in Osogbo, Bassey Ewah, has ordered the quick release of a student arrested after a video went viral. The video showed police officers allegedly assaulting a young man in Ede, Osun State.

Ewah gave the order on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, after a meeting with representatives of the student body and the student involved.

The video was shared on X by Oyekola A. Samuel, who goes by the handle #OKollyp. It showed a young man being attacked by men in police uniforms while a young woman begged the officers to stop.

In a statement on Thursday, the Zonal Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ojedele Olanrewaju Tunji, said Ewah promised that the situation would be fully investigated.

The statement mentioned that the officers involved are part of the Zone 11 Cybercrime Unit.

Ewah assured the students that there would be a fair investigation into the incident. He said, "During the meeting, the AIG assured the students of a thorough and impartial investigation into the circumstances surrounding the alleged assault of one of them by operatives of the Zone 11 Cybercrime Unit."
