A musical drama from Lagos called Which Way will have its African premiere at the Africa International Film Festival on Tuesday, November 3.
Produced by Bold Pictures and Jumafor Ajogwu, the film will show at Filmhouse Cinemas, Landmark, Victoria Island, Lagos, at 8pm. The cast members are set to join a question-and-answer session after the screening.
Jide Okeke directed the film, which stars Floyd Igbo, Chidinma Nebo, Mariam Kayode, and Onome Akpotebu in key roles. Other actors include Chimezie Imo, Stan Nze, Ijeoma Grace Agu, Yemi Blaq, and Olayiwola Razaq.
Which Way tells the story of a family facing tough times. It dives into themes like anger, domestic struggles, and the emotional scars that affect relationships.
Imo plays Catcher, Nze plays Emmanuel, Agu takes on the role of Aunty Joy, Blaq is Papa Ladi, and Razaq plays the Prophet.
The production team highlights that a unique aspect of the film is its live singing during the shoot. This means the actors had to act and sing at the same time in emotional scenes.
Okeke pointed out that they focused on performers who could handle both acting and singing without depending on recorded voices.
"We weren’t casting voices or faces. We were casting people who could carry a scene and a song at the same time, without a safety net," he explained.
"This cast gave everything. Some of what you will see and hear on screen happened once and will never happen the same way again."
The script for Which Way was written by Temi Mattu and Okeke. It looks at the feelings and tensions family members find hard to express, using music to share what often goes unspoken.
Okeke, who won Best Director at the Portugal Indie Film Festival this year, is at the helm of this project.
