There are no talks about Lionel Messi going back to his first club, Newell’s Old Boys, even though some reports say otherwise.

Transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano shared on X on Friday that Messi is very happy at Inter Miami. His family feels the same way.

The Argentine star plans to stick to his current contract, which lasts until at least the end of 2028.

Romano said, “There are no negotiations taking place for Lionel Messi’s return to Newell’s Old Boys despite reports. Messi is very happy at Inter Miami, same for his family. Leo wants to fulfill his current deal until 2028, at least, could be even longer, to be evaluated later on.”

It is possible that Messi could stay longer, but that will be looked at later.

Recently, Argentine media has been buzzing with stories about Messi possibly moving back to Rosario. Some reports even say he could return as early as January 2027.

Newell’s has always shown interest in bringing back their most famous youth player as he nears the end of his career.

But it seems those reports have exaggerated the situation. Messi is fully focused on Inter Miami, where he has settled in well since joining in 2023. He has also recently extended his stay until 2028.

While a future move back to Newell’s is not completely off the table, there are no current discussions happening.
