The Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced Hussain Yusuf-Datti from the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the Dawakin Kudu constituency by-election in Kano State.
Ibrahim Tajo-Suraj, the returning officer for the election, made the announcement on Saturday in Dawakin Kudu. He confirmed that Mr Yusuf-Datti received 22,890 votes.
Mr Yusuf-Datti's closest rival, Habib Hamisu from the Peoples Redemption Party, managed to get 270 votes. Mr Ibrahim said that Abdullahi Adamu from the Peoples Democratic Party scored 108 votes.
Bala Mohammed-Sani of the Action Democratic Party got 89 votes. Aliyu Abdullahi from the All Peoples Party received 53 votes, while Abubakar Yahya-Mohammed of the Labour Party had 39 votes.
“Therefore, Mr Hussain Yusuf-Datti of the APC, having satisfied the requirements of the law and scored the highest number of votes, is hereby declared the winner and return elected,” he stated.
