Arrest Made in Super Falcons Hotel Theft Case

A suspect has been arrested and has confessed to stealing money from several Super Falcons players at the Marriott Hotel in Casablanca, Morocco. This happened just days before Nigeria’s first match at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, according to PUNCH Sports Extra.

The suspect is expected to return all the stolen cash, and legal action will follow.

The theft took place on the last day of the team's training camp in Casablanca. The Super Falcons then moved to Rabat for their Group C matches.

Nigeria started their WAFCON 2026 camp on July 15 in Mohammedia, a coastal city in Morocco. They relocated to Rabat on Saturday, where they will stay throughout the group stage.

Midfielder Esther Okoronkwo shared on social media that she, goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie, defender Michelle Alozie, and captain Rasheedat Ajibade were among those affected by the theft.

Okoronkwo stated that more than $1,000 was stolen during the incident. She also mentioned that hotel staff did not handle the situation well when the players reported the theft.

“We started talking to them and they don’t have answers. They also started being disrespectful,” Okoronkwo said. She warned the public against staying at the hotel.

After the players complained, Nigerian journalist Colin Udoh, who is a former media officer for the Super Eagles, reported that the case had advanced.

“I have been informed that a suspect has been arrested in connection with the theft at the Super Falcons’ Marriott Hotel in Casablanca and has confessed. Full restitution will be made to the players while the law takes its course,” Udoh posted on Sunday.

Despite this unsettling incident, the Super Falcons have turned their focus to the tournament. Their head coach Justine Madugu’s team is set to start their campaign against Malawi on Tuesday at Al Madina Stadium in Rabat.

They held two training sessions at the AS FAR training ground on Sunday.

Nigeria, the record 10-time African champions, will also play against Zambia and Egypt in Group C as they aim for their 11th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations title.
