Yoruba actor Olanrewaju “Baba Ijesha” James has dismissed the criticism he has faced for his recent public appearances. He said he is not worried about what people think during a visit to National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) President Musiliu “MC Oluomo” Akinsanya.
Baba Ijesha went to Abuja with his wife, fashion entrepreneur Abiodun Tokunbo. He described their bond as a long-lasting friendship and stated that “glory had met glory.”
This visit happened a few days after the Ooni of Ife, Adeyeye Ogunwusi, publicly denied giving Baba Ijesha the “Awada Konge Oduwa” chieftaincy title. This was despite Baba Ijesha’s earlier claim that he had received the honor. He has not directly responded to the Ooni’s statement.
Instead, Baba Ijesha chose to address his critics during the visit to MC Oluomo. He said he would not let public comments about his recent actions distract him.
He mentioned, “Glory has met glory. MC Oluomo and I have been together for a very long time. We don’t kill people, that’s a lie. We did all the work: driving, conducting.
“But today, glory be to God, we’re grateful. Whatever people like, they should continue saying it.”
In a video shared with this newspaper, Baba Ijesha and his wife were seen taking photos with MC Oluomo and some of his aides at what looked like his house.
After the photos, MC Oluomo spoke privately with the couple. They were all smiling and appeared to be having a meaningful conversation.
Baba Ijesha’s recent visits to two notable Nigerians in a short time come after a series of public appearances since his release from prison. He recently announced the birth of his son, King Kagar, with his wife. He also appeared on actress Biola Adebayo’s “Talk To B” podcast and released a music video, “Eniwaye Dáràn,” where he talked about his issues with comedienne Damilola “Princess Comedian” Adekoya.
Since leaving prison after his conviction for sexually assaulting a child, Baba Ijesha has been active on social media. He continues to show up in public with prominent figures, which has sparked a lot of reactions online.
Many netizens are questioning why respected public figures are welcoming and celebrating someone with such a conviction. They argue that the kind of public reception he gets shows the behavior society seems ready to accept, support, or reward.
