Barcelona has made a deal with Manchester City to sign Spanish World Cup winner Rodri, a source from the Catalan club confirmed to AFP on Sunday.
The 30-year-old midfielder will join Barcelona for about 75 million euros, which is around $87 million, according to reports.
"In the coming days, there will be a statement and (the transfer) will become official," said the Barcelona source.
Rodri was linked with Real Madrid after Spain's World Cup win in July, but Barcelona moved quickly to sign the former Atletico Madrid player. He has been a key part of Manchester City’s success since he joined in 2019.
The midfielder, who won the Ballon d'Or in 2024, has faced some injury issues over the last two seasons but performed well as Spain clinched their second World Cup.
Injury Concerns at Barcelona
Frenkie de Jong, Barcelona's Dutch midfielder, is expected to be out for several months due to injury. This situation pushed the club to pursue Rodri.
Barcelona had two bids turned down for Rodri but finally reached an agreement with Manchester City on Sunday. He will join Anthony Gordon, Karim Adeyemi, and Jesse Bisiwu at Camp Nou this summer.
Rodri, who captains Spain, was essential for Pep Guardiola at City. He helped lead the team to the 2023 Champions League title and four Premier League titles, totaling 12 major trophies during his time there.
More Deals on the Way
Barcelona is also likely to finalize a deal to sign Joao Cancelo soon. They had him on loan last season from Al Hilal.
