Popular Nigerian skit maker and actor, Samuel Perry, also known as Broda Shaggi, has finally spoken after months of silence. He thanked his fans for staying loyal while he was away from the public eye.
Shaggi had mostly stayed away from social events and shows recently. He said he could not connect with his fans like he wanted to.
In an emotional message shared on his WhatsApp channel on Friday, the comedian expressed gratitude to those who checked on him and supported him during his absence. He said their loyalty meant a lot to him.
"To everyone who’s still here… waiting, checking in, showing love, and holding me down even through the silence, thank you. I don’t think y’all truly understand how much that means to me.
"Even when I haven’t been able to show up the way I wanted to, knowing that y’all are still here has meant more than I can put into words," he wrote.
Shaggi did not give details about why he was absent. He mentioned that he is not ready to share his full story yet.
He hinted that he would open up about his challenges eventually. He also expressed hope that he would soon return to his comedy.
"I wish I could tell y’all everything right now… but I can’t. Not yet.
"Just know I haven’t forgotten about you, and I haven’t stopped thinking about the day I can finally come back and really be ME with y’all again. I’m hoping that day comes soon," he said.
The comedian promised his fans that he would come back stronger. He acknowledged the time he spent away from the public.
"And when it does, I promise I’m coming back better, stronger, and ready to make up for all this lost time," he added.
"Until then, please know this from the bottom of my heart. I LOOOOOOOOR Y’ALL SOOOO MUCH. Thank you for staying. Thank you for being patient with me. Thank you for still being here," Shaggi said.
This message comes months after reports of an alleged shooting incident involving the comedian raised concerns among fans.
PUNCH Online reported that the Ogun State Police Command began looking into claims that Shaggi had been shot while filming a comedy skit near the Sango-Ota area of Ogun State.
The incident was said to have happened on a Sunday afternoon while Shaggi and his crew filmed under the Sango-Ota bridge. However, the details of what happened are still unclear. The Ogun State Police Command stated it could not confirm the incident.
In a statement, the police spokesperson, Oluseyi Babaseyi, asked people not to spread unverified information.
"For the sake of clarity, the command cannot confirm that Broda Shaggi was shot anywhere within Ogun State. Investigation into the matter has, however, commenced," he said.
The Lagos State Police Command also mentioned that detectives were informed by a hospital about a gunshot victim receiving treatment. Officers found out that the victim was Shaggi.
The police noted that he had a thigh injury but pointed out that the incident location, Sango-Ota, was outside their jurisdiction.
At that time, a source told PUNCH Online that Shaggi was first taken to a hospital in Alakuko, Lagos, before being moved to another facility in Ikeja.
Later, people questioned the details of the incident on social media. Shaggi and his management did not provide a full account of what happened.
His long absence from public events and social media became a worry for fans, who kept asking about him.
