Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes had his home in Cheshire, England, robbed while he was in Italy for a match against Como. This news came from the BBC on Thursday.
The break-in happened on Wednesday evening, October 21, while the 32-year-old midfielder was away for the game.
The BBC reported that Fernandes’ family was not at home when the thieves entered. The suspects spent less than five minutes inside before the police arrived.
Cheshire Police told the BBC that they responded to calls about suspicious activity after someone saw “three unknown men in the rear garden of a neighbouring property.”
The police confirmed that a burglary took place at the address but said they could not confirm if it was Fernandes’ home.
Detective Inspector David Jarvis from Macclesfield Proactive CID mentioned that the investigation is still in the early stages. “The investigation is in its early stages at this time, and we’re committed to doing all we can to trace the people responsible,” he said.
The BBC also noted that Manchester United is supporting Fernandes after this incident.
This burglary is part of a worrying trend where footballers’ homes are targeted while they are away with their teams.
In January, Manchester City midfielder Ruben Dias and his ex-girlfriend, Maya Jama, were victims of a similar burglary while Dias was away for a Champions League match against Galatasaray.
Other footballers who have had their homes broken into in the same area include Jack Grealish, Raheem Sterling, and Riyad Mahrez.
United lost 4-1 to Como on Wednesday.
