Bruno Giordano Sees Room for Improvement in Dele-Bashiru

Lazio legend Bruno Giordano thinks Fisayo Dele-Bashiru has what it takes to trouble opponents. But he believes the Nigerian midfielder still needs to work on his tactics, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

While looking at the options for Lazio coach Gennaro Gattuso, Giordano pointed out Dele-Bashiru's strength and ability to take on challenges. He feels the midfielder can really make a difference in games.

“Dele-Bashiru? He’s a player who gives the impression of being dangerous. He’s undisciplined in the game, but he has physical and attacking skills. It’s unlikely because he’s a man-on-man duel, even if he still has a lot to learn tactically,” he said, as reported by Lazio News.

Giordano’s comments highlight what makes Dele-Bashiru an interesting choice for Gattuso. He also noted that the midfielder needs to bring more tactical discipline to his game.

Dele-Bashiru's progress hit a snag when he injured his thigh during Lazio’s 1-0 win over Bologna on August 24.

He started the match but had to leave after 54 minutes. Medical checks later showed he had a first- or second-degree tear. This injury was expected to keep him out for at least three weeks.

The injury also meant he missed Nigeria’s international matches in September. Super Eagles coach Éric Chelle decided not to include him in the squad for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying games against Madagascar and Guinea-Bissau.

Lazio took a careful approach to his recovery. Gattuso confirmed in September that the club would not rush Dele-Bashiru back into action during his rehabilitation.

Towards the end of September, Dele-Bashiru returned to full training after being sidelined for over a month. This was a big step in his recovery.

Now, he aims to regain full match fitness. He wants to work his way back into the team as Lazio continues its Serie A season.
