Can a Nobel Prize Fix Trump's Global Impact?

US President Donald Trump believes a Nobel Prize can fix the problems he has caused. He is sure he deserves the Nobel Peace Prize for his so-called efforts for peace, especially in his second term.

Trump claims he has ended eight wars. These wars include the Israel-Hamas War, the Israel-Iran War, the India-Pakistan War, the Thailand-Cambodia War, and the DR Congo-Rwanda War.

Can you name anyone who, in his words, has saved millions of lives for world peace in the last two years? Each war he claims to have settled is like one Nobel Prize. So, he believes he should have eight prizes, but he has not received even one!

Trump is not the only one who feels he has achieved what Napoleon could not, yet he is still widely disliked. In January, Venezuelan opposition leader Marina Corina Machado met Trump at the White House and gave him her 2025 Nobel Peace Prize gold medal. She wanted to correct what she sees as a mistake by the Nobel Committee.

But the mock medal did not satisfy Trump. His anger showed when the Committee announced the 2026 winners in Oslo last week. He clearly wants the real prize. He thinks it is worth more than Cuba, Greenland, the Strait of Hormuz, and all the trade tariffs combined.

Trump also had harsh words for the Nobel Committee. He called it "forever discredited" and said the members are "a handful of radical ideologues who are anti-democracy and really enemies of civilization."

He even criticized the 2026 prize winner, Navi Pillay, calling her a "mystery person nobody has ever heard of."

Asking for a Nobel Prize is unusual. But Trump seems to think that what he cannot change does not exist. In the past, nominees like Leo Tolstoy and Albert Einstein were nominated without demanding the prize. A Swedish parliament member even nominated Adolf Hitler as a joke in 1939, and that nomination was quickly taken back.

The 2026 Nobel Prize for Peace will be unique. The winner, the committee, the country, and the International Criminal Court are all facing backlash because of a sore loser.

Trump has added Norway to his list of “disgraced countries,” which used to be only African nations. Now, it seems like it might be something he takes pride in.

Who put Trump’s name forward for the Nobel Peace Prize? The Nobel Committee usually keeps that information secret. It neither confirms nor denies claims during this period. Last year, Anna Paulina Luna, a Republican member of the US House of Representatives from Florida, said she nominated Trump for his claimed role in brokering the Israel-Hamas ceasefire.

But the ceasefire in Gaza has turned into a bloody situation. More than a year after it began on October 10, 2025, reports show that Israel has carried out daily air and drone strikes. They attacked Gaza roughly 325 out of the first 361 days of this so-called ceasefire.

According to the Gaza Ministry of Health and UN reports, at least 1,493 Palestinians, including women and children, have died. About 5,299 people have been injured during this ceasefire. While Trump hopes for a peace prize, Israel continues to break the ceasefire without facing any consequences.

Bombings, shootings, restrictions, and encroachments by Israeli settlers continue in Gaza. This all happens under the watchful eye of Trump, the self-proclaimed peacemaker.

If this is the ceasefire for which even Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif nominated Trump for a peace prize, then the Nobel Committee might need to create a new Prize for War.

The problem remains that the US has placed a demagogue in the White House and seems to think their excitement will pressure the world, including the Nobel Committee, to award him a prize.

Trump and his supporters show their confusion in a press conference about Iran. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio described the Middle East conflict with outdated language. It is troubling that the Trump administration is damaging the peace and security efforts built after World War II. These institutions have helped both the US and the world, despite their flaws.

The Nobel Committee awarded Pillay for making states and leaders follow the law. This is a topic where the Trump administration has set some of the worst examples. Pillay has led investigations into serious human rights abuses in places like Myanmar, Rwanda, and Gaza, where Trump’s policies have caused major issues.

Trump did not stop at criticizing the Nobel Committee. He used the US to impose sanctions on the ICC. These sanctions seem as doomed as his plans in the Strait of Hormuz.

The potential indictment of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and the possibility of Trump facing charges for war crimes in Gaza and Iran, must worry Trump. He wants to erase any doubts with a grand Nobel Prize.

As he did to undermine the UN, Trump might consider creating a new award similar to the Nobel Prize, even if it is just to give himself a prize. He craves recognition to avoid facing accountability.

Sadly, the world will have to deal with these issues for the rest of Trump’s term, which feels like forever. The hope that mid-term elections might give the Democrats a majority in Congress is weak. Leaders like Trump don’t leave things to chance. The January 2021 Capitol Hill invasion showed that when things get tough, institutional checks are the first to go.

If Trump could put the world into Mar-a-Lago or stuff oceans into Trump Tower, he would. He would rename the Earth "Trump Island" and call himself the Emperor of Planet Earth.

Meanwhile, from Europe to the Middle East, and from Asia to Africa and North America, the world is suffering from the fallout of Trump's reckless policies. People are facing supply chain issues, rising prices, and increasing global suffering.

It is ridiculous that the current White House thinks Trump deserves a peace prize, even a fake one. What does it take to call this madness by its right name?
