Faith plays a big part in the lives of many Nigerian celebrities. Some share their spiritual journeys openly, while others keep their worship private. Over the years, several churches have become popular among actors, musicians, comedians, and media personalities who attend services, mark milestones, or praise their pastors. Temitope Adetunji explores some of these churches that attract famous faces.
The Love of God in Christ Church
Led by Flourish Peters, The Love of God in Christ (L.O.G.I.C) Church is one of Nigeria’s fast-growing Christian ministries. It has a strong following among young professionals and creatives. Located in Lekki, Lagos, the church is known for its modern worship style, teachings on grace, and active presence online.
The church has gained attention for the many entertainers and public figures who attend its services. Some even call it a “celebrity church.” Notable personalities linked to the church include Toke Makinwa, Brain Jotter, Neo Akpofure, and Tope Olowoniyan. Toke Makinwa dedicated her daughter at the Lekki church in 2025.
Harvesters International Christian Centre
Founded by Bolaji Idowu, Harvesters International Christian Centre is another fast-growing church in Nigeria. It has a strong following among young professionals, creatives, and entrepreneurs. Known for its modern worship style, practical teachings, and strong online presence, the church attracts many from Nigeria’s entertainment and creative scenes.
Singer Timi Dakolo has spoken publicly about worshipping at Harvesters and appreciates Idowu’s teachings. Fashion designer Veekee James calls Idowu her “spiritual father.” In December 2023, Afrobeats singer Davido attended the church’s crossover service for the New Year, which gained attention on social media.
Harvesters also holds conferences and special programmes that attract actors, musicians, media personalities, and entrepreneurs. Celebrities seen at the church or its events include Stephanie Linus, Tiwa Savage, Peller, Broda Shaggi, Spyro, and Hilda Baci.
The Waterbrook Church
The Waterbrook Church became more popular when singer and actor Bankole Wellington, also known as Banky W, was ordained as a pastor. Before ministry, he was one of Nigeria’s leading music stars, making his new role a widely discussed topic.
His wife, actress Adesua Etomi-Wellington, also attends the church. Gospel singer Mercy Chinwo worshipped there before her marriage and met her husband Blessed Uzochikwa at the church. The church has hosted celebrity weddings, thanksgiving services, and baby dedications involving well-known figures in entertainment.
The Elevation Church
Founded by Godman Akinlabi, The Elevation Church is now one of Nigeria’s top churches for young professionals, media personalities, and entertainers. Its modern style and focus on career and family make it popular.
Singer Paul Okoye, formerly of P-Square, has been associated with the church. He dedicated his daughter Imani at the church’s Lekki headquarters on January 5, 2025, with family members, including his wife Ivy Ifeoma and elder brother Jude.
Christ Embassy
Founded by Chris Oyakhilome in 1987, Christ Embassy, also known as LoveWorld Incorporated, is a global Christian ministry with a strong presence in Nigeria and beyond. The church is known for its media platforms, international conferences, and influential music ministry.
Gospel artists such as Sinach, Frank Edwards, and Ada Ehi built much of their careers through LoveWorld’s music platform. Through its worship programmes, concerts, and global events, Christ Embassy continues to attract gospel artists and other public figures.
Trinity House
Led by Ituah Ighodalo, Trinity House is well known in Nigeria. It attracts worshippers from all backgrounds. The church has hosted weddings, thanksgiving services, memorials, and other events attended by prominent entertainers, business leaders, and public figures.
Pastor Ighodalo is respected by many celebrities, who often seek his advice. Nollywood actress Kate Henshaw is a prominent supporter of the church.
Streams of Joy International
Founded by Jerry Eze, Streams of Joy International has grown quickly through its physical branches and the global online prayer platform, New Season Prophetic Prayers and Declarations. The ministry attracts a wide audience, including professionals, public figures, and entertainers who attend services or participate in prayer gatherings.
Entertainment personalities like Tonto Dikeh, Patience Ozokwo, and Francis Duru have been publicly associated with Streams of Joy. They have attended the ministry’s programmes and events.
House on the Rock
Founded by Paul Adefarasin, House on the Rock is one of Nigeria’s most influential Pentecostal churches. The church is known for hosting The Experience, an annual gospel concert that draws tens of thousands of worshippers and top gospel ministers.
Over time, the church has been linked to several celebrities, including comedian Julius Agwu and media personality IK Osakioduwa. Actors, musicians, and other public figures also regularly attend services and major events at the church.
Celestial Church of Christ
Founded in 1947 by Samuel Oshoffa, the Celestial Church of Christ is one of Nigeria’s most recognized white garment churches. It has branches all over Nigeria and beyond. While celebrities may attend different branches, many Nigerian entertainers are publicly associated with the church.
These include Funke Akindele, Regina Daniels, Eniola Badmus, Liz Da-Silva, and Ronke Oshodi-Oke, who have been seen at the church’s services and events.
