Galatasaray coach Okan Buruk has been told to fix Victor Osimhen’s offside problem. This comes after the Nigerian striker was caught offside six times during their 4-1 loss to Barcelona in the Champions League on Tuesday, according to PUNCH Sports Extra.
Turkish football commentator Hüseyin Özkök criticized Osimhen’s positioning. He said Buruk must find a solution to help the striker perform better.
Speaking on A Spor, Özkök pointed out that Osimhen was involved in eight offside calls during the match. He argued that these repeated mistakes hurt Galatasaray's chances of attacking effectively against the Spanish team.
“Out of eight offsides in Galatasaray, six belong to Osimhen. Okan Buruk must definitely solve Osimhen’s offside problem,” he said.
Barcelona’s high defensive line made it hard for Osimhen. They caught him offside often, limiting his chances to score.
The Super Eagles striker had a tough match. He recorded just 12 touches, tried three passes, and completed two. He also had one shot that missed the target, won three of his nine duels, and lost the ball six times.
His struggles showed how well Barcelona organized their defense. They denied him the space to use his speed and strength. The offside calls also disrupted Galatasaray's plans to create dangerous attacks.
Galatasaray took the lead first with a goal from Aleksey Batrakov. But Barcelona equalized through João Cancelo. Then, in the second half, goals from Fermín López, Anthony Gordon, and Karim Adeyemi completed a comeback.
This defeat extended Barcelona’s winning streak to 10 matches. It left Galatasaray reflecting on a performance where their main striker could not make an impact.
For Osimhen, this match was also the first time this season that he did not score or assist in a game. This ended his run of direct goal contributions.
Even with this disappointing performance, Osimhen remains key to Galatasaray’s attack. His ability to find space behind defenders is a big part of his game. But this match showed the challenges he faces against teams that defend tightly.
Buruk will need to work on the connection between Osimhen and his teammates. They need to improve the timing of their attacking runs to avoid these issues in future European matches.
