Villarreal coach Inigo Perez has called out Nigeria's Victor Osimhen for trying to start a fight during their 2-1 pre-season win over Galatasaray on Saturday, according to PUNCH Sports Extra.
Perez's comments came after a confrontation in the 37th minute. Defender Santiago Mouriño blocked Osimhen as he tried to reach a cross heading into the penalty area.
Osimhen got angry and pushed Mouriño to the ground. Galatasaray players quickly stepped in to stop things from getting worse. Referee Kadir Sağlam showed yellow cards to both players.
“There is not much to say about football, because the opposing team didn’t come onto the field to play football, but to fight,” Perez said after the match.
“Osimhen attacked our player out of nowhere and only got a yellow card.”
This incident took attention away from what was otherwise a good game for Osimhen. He had scored Galatasaray’s equaliser in the fifth minute after Ayoze Perez put Villarreal ahead.
Osimhen jumped high to head in Eren Elmali’s cross. Later, Georges Mikautadze scored to give Villarreal the lead again just before half-time.
Galatasaray couldn’t find another goal and ended up losing for the third time in pre-season. The fight between Osimhen and Mouriño became the main topic after the match.
Fans were unhappy after the defeat. This was the third loss for the Turkish champions in five warm-up games.
Galatasaray’s pre-season record shows one win, one draw, and three losses. They started with a 5-1 win over Umraniyespor, then lost to Monza and Venezia, drew 3-3 with Rennes, and finally lost to Villarreal.
Fans turned their attention to the stands, showing their frustration over the club’s transfer moves.
Galatasaray will kick off their Super Lig title defence on Friday when they play Corum at home.
