Liverpool coach Andoni Iraola said the confusion around Manchester City’s future is causing worry in the Premier League. City was found guilty of breaking financial rules, but they insist they did nothing wrong and have appealed the decision from an independent commission.
The Premier League leaders could face a heavy points deduction. This could put their position in the English Premier League in jeopardy.
Iraola feels the league is in a state of uncertainty until a clear decision is made. “I think the worst thing probably is the uncertainty, that no one knows what’s going to happen,” the Spaniard said. This was ahead of City’s first match since the ruling against Liverpool on Sunday.
“But we have to focus on Liverpool, be the best club we can be, the best team we can be and that’s my challenge.”
Iraola became the Liverpool coach in June. He is excited about the intense atmosphere at Anfield. “The atmosphere is going to be big, especially at Anfield,” he said.
“We want to give also our supporters reasons to be with us. When they see the team they want to see on the pitch, we can create an even better atmosphere and we will work for that.”
Liverpool is still unbeaten since Iraola took over. But with three draws in their first five league games, they are six points behind the leaders.
Iraola’s forward options are limited after Alexander Isak and Cody Gakpo got injured while playing for their national teams.
“As a club manager, you are always waiting until the game ends, hoping the doctor doesn’t call you, doesn’t give you bad news, but in this case we’ve been unlucky with Alex and Cody, both of them,” he said.
“They are injured and they are not going to be involved on Sunday.
