A member of the National Youth Service Corps has died after a trailer crushed him on Monday. This happened at Agodi Gardens in Ibadan North Local Government Area of Oyo State. The identity of the corps member is still unknown.
Several others were injured in the crash. Reports from PUNCH Metro say the truck driver hit multiple vehicles in the Sango area before heading to Agodi Gardens. There, the trailer collided with a motorcycle carrying the corps member, killing him instantly.
An eyewitness, who asked to remain anonymous, said the trailer was already involved in several crashes around Sango before this incident. “The articulated vehicle had been involved in multiple collisions around Sango before this fatal incident occurred. The truck driver had reportedly hit several vehicles around Sango before proceeding towards Agodi,” the eyewitness shared.
Another eyewitness noted that the situation worsened when the trailer reached Agodi Gardens. The trailer crashed into the motorcycle that was carrying the corps member. “The truck eventually hit the motorcycle, killing the NYSC corps member, while several other people sustained injuries,” the eyewitness explained.
The source also indicated that the driver tried to escape after causing the earlier accidents before the crash at Agodi Gardens.
Our reporter, who went to the accident scene, saw that officials from the Federal Road Safety Corps had arrived. They were managing the situation and assisting the victims.
Those injured were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment. As of now, there is no official word on whether the truck driver has been arrested.
