Couple in Anambra Jailed for Abusing 10-Year-Old Boy

The police in Anambra State have locked up a couple, Chukwudi Chukwuyere, 40, and his wife, Chisom Chukwuyere, 30. They are accused of abusing a 10-year-old boy who was in their care.

The boy, named Chiziterem, was seen in a viral video on social media. His body had serious burns and injuries, allegedly caused by his guardians in Awada, Obosi, Idemili North Local Government Area.

Right now, he is getting medical help while under state protection.

The video showing the boy’s injuries caused a public outcry. This led to the state government stepping in to address the situation.

On Thursday, the spokesperson for the Anambra State Police, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, announced that the couple had been taken to court after the police finished their investigation.

Ikenga stated, "The Anambra State Police Command has secured the remand of Mr Chukwudi Chukwuyere, 40, and Mrs Chisom Chukwuyere, 30, in a Correctional Centre over their alleged involvement in the abuse of a 10-year-old boy in Isiowulu, Anambra State."

He added, "The suspects were arraigned in court following the conclusion of preliminary investigations into the case, which attracted public concern after reports and video footage of the victim surfaced on social media."

Ikenga also praised the local residents for their alertness and support. Their quick action helped rescue the boy and ensure he got the medical care he needed, while the couple was arrested.

He concluded, "Anambra State Police Command remains committed to promoting justice and the protection of human rights in line with the vision of the Inspector General of Police. Further developments would be communicated accordingly."
