The Ogun I Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has seized goods worth N2.469 billion between August and September. This includes a 2026 Range Rover Sport Autobiography P530 valued at N417.01 million.
Deputy Comptroller Oladapo Afeni, the acting Area Controller, shared this information on Thursday during a press conference at the command’s headquarters in Idiroko, Ogun State.
Afeni explained that these seizures are part of the command’s fight against smuggling, protecting the nation’s borders, and promoting legal trade.
Other items seized include 1,204 bags of foreign parboiled rice, 3,893 parcels of cannabis sativa weighing 1.878 tonnes, 428 pneumatic tyres, 8,675 litres of Premium Motor Spirit stored in kegs, 24 bales of second-hand clothing, four sacks of used shoes, and 500 litres of diesel.
According to Afeni, the Range Rover was one of the biggest catches in their recent operations. “Ladies and gentlemen, one of the highlights of today’s briefing is the seizure of a 2026 Range Rover Sport Autobiography P530 worth N417,011,982,” he said.
He added that the total Duty Paid Value of all items seized during this period was N2,469,153,523.68. He emphasized that these seizures show the command's strong stance against economic sabotage at the borders.
Afeni also mentioned that they will hand over the 3,893 parcels of cannabis sativa to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency’s Idiroko Special Command for further investigation.
He highlighted that border security is a joint effort. The command has hosted many high-level meetings with various security agencies to coordinate operations along the Ogun border.
“We have strengthened our operations with the Nigerian Army, Nigeria Police Force, Nigeria Immigration Service, NDLEA, and environmental agencies to effectively fight cross-border crimes,” he said.
Afeni noted that they have also engaged with traditional rulers, youth leaders, and border community groups to build trust and reduce tensions during enforcement operations.
He mentioned that their work goes beyond customs enforcement. They are involved in corporate social responsibility and environmental efforts to support local communities.
Afeni attributed the recent successes to the hard work, dedication, and integrity of the officers in the command. He also thanked the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, and the management team for their support.
He praised the officers for their commitment to duty, even in tough conditions. He expressed gratitude to local communities, traditional rulers, and media partners for their cooperation with the command.
Afeni warned those involved in smuggling and other illegal activities that the command will step up enforcement against them. “To the perpetrators of economic sabotage and illegal border activities, our message remains clear: Ogun I Command will continue to be a hostile zone for uncustomed goods and illicit trade.
“We are committed to protecting Nigeria’s economic interests and national security,” he declared.
