Daga shares his emotional goal celebration experience

Nigerian midfielder Daniel Daga has opened up about the strong feelings behind his goal celebration during Molde’s 4-2 win over KFUM Oslo in the Norwegian Eliteserien on Sunday. He called it one of the biggest moments of his career after a long and tough break from football, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

Daga, 19, could not hold back tears after he scored Molde’s equaliser in the 40th minute. He dropped to the ground and covered his face with his jersey. This moment touched players, officials, and fans.

“It’s been a long time since I played. It was a big moment for me. I’m grateful to God; it was a very emotional moment for me,” Daga said, as reported by TV2.

The goal came in his second start after being brought back to Molde’s squad. This was following his recent acquittal by Norway’s Frostating Court of Appeal. They overturned a conviction from March for a sexual offence.

Molde had suspended Daga indefinitely after the initial ruling. But they quickly reinstated him once the appeal court cleared his name.

“Daniel Daga is unanimously acquitted in the criminal case that has been dealt with by the Frostating Court of Appeal. Now that the Court of Appeal’s judgment has been delivered and Daniel Daga has been acquitted, we consider the employment situation to be clarified, and Daniel will be available for selection for Molde FK going forward,” the club said in a statement.

On the field, Daga was quick to score after a teammate's shot hit the crossbar. This brought Molde level after they had gone behind in the opening minute.

Emil Breivik then put Molde ahead before KFUM equalised again. Finally, Martin Linnes and Samukele Kabini scored in stoppage time to secure the win.

The former Flying Eagles midfielder joined Molde before the 2025 season. He has now played 14 matches for the Norwegian club, scoring three goals.
