Daga Returns to Molde with a Goal

Daniel Daga returned to Molde’s starting team and scored a goal as the Norwegian club came back to beat KFUM Oslo 4-2 away on Sunday, according to PUNCH Sports Extra.

This was Daga's second match since he was cleared on appeal in a rape case. The Nigerian midfielder scored Molde’s equalizer in the 40th minute after they fell behind just one minute into the game.

Daga was quick to score off a rebound and bring the score to 1-1 before Emil Breivik put Molde ahead soon after the second half began. KFUM Oslo responded quickly to tie the game again, but late goals from Martin Linnes and Samukele Kabini secured all three points for Molde in stoppage time.

This was Daga’s second start since the club lifted his suspension due to the legal case. The 19-year-old was found not guilty earlier this month by Norway’s Frostating Court of Appeal, which overturned his conviction from March.

In March 2026, Daga was sentenced to six months in prison for committing a sexual act without consent. The alleged incident took place in April 2025, and he was charged formally in December 2025.

After the conviction, Molde suspended him indefinitely from playing with the first team. However, when the Court of Appeal overturned the verdict, the club allowed the midfielder to return.

“Daniel Daga is unanimously acquitted in the criminal case that has been dealt with by the Frostating Court of Appeal. Molde FK takes note of the verdict, although the judgment is not yet legally binding,” the club said in a statement.

“The club recognizes that this has been a serious and burdensome case for everyone involved.

“Since the indictment was filed, Molde FK has made ongoing assessments based on the situation and the club’s responsibilities as an employer. Now that the Court of Appeal’s judgment has been delivered and Daniel Daga has been acquitted, we consider the employment situation to be clarified, and Daniel will be available for selection for Molde FK going forward.”

Daga’s lawyer, Astrid Bolstad, always maintained that the player was innocent after the initial conviction and later filed the successful appeal.

The former Flying Eagles midfielder joined Molde before the 2025 season and has now played 14 matches for the Norwegian club, scoring three goals.
