Davido appeals to Trump for peaceful Osun election

Afrobeats star David Adeleke, better known as Davido, has reached out to United States President Donald Trump. He wants Trump to pay attention to the upcoming Osun State governorship election. Davido is worried about possible violence and how it might disrupt the electoral process.

Davido made this appeal in a post on X on Tuesday. He called on the United States and the international community to watch over the election. He wants them to encourage Nigerian authorities to protect voters and make sure their votes count.

“President Donald Trump, I am calling your attention to the situation in Osun State, Nigeria, as we approach the election.

“There are growing concerns about tension and the possibility of violence, intimidation, or disruption of the democratic process,” Davido wrote.

The singer emphasized that authorities should allow residents to vote without fear. He believes that Osun people deserve to vote freely, peacefully, and without any intimidation.

“Osun people deserve to exercise their constitutional right to vote freely, peacefully, and without fear,” he said.

Davido also asked the international community to focus on the election set for August 15. He urged the United States to help ensure that every voter is safe and that every vote is counted.

“I appeal to the United States and the international community to pay close attention to the election and encourage all relevant authorities to ensure that every voter is protected and every vote is respected,” he wrote.

He made it clear that his main goal is to prevent violence and ensure a fair electoral process.

“We do not want bloodshed. We do not want intimidation. We want peace, transparency, and a free and fair election,” Davido said.

This recent appeal comes after Davido warned that he would seek Trump's help if anything went wrong during the Osun election. He mentioned this during a live session with comedian Carter Efe. He said he would involve the US president if the electoral process faced any problems.

Davido, who is the nephew of Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, has openly supported his uncle's bid for re-election. He has also been vocal about the need for a peaceful election.

Earlier, he asked political leaders and residents of Osun to reject violence, intimidation, and provocation before the elections. He stressed that voters' choices must be respected.

The Osun governorship election will see Adeleke competing against other candidates. This includes Bola Oyebamiji from the All Progressives Congress and Najeem Salaam from the African Democratic Congress.

Davido's recent call adds to the growing demands for a peaceful and credible election as political activities heat up ahead of the August 15 poll.
