As political tensions rise for the 2026 Osun State governorship election, singer David “Davido” Adeleke has called out the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Davido's uncle, Ademola Adeleke, is running for re-election in the August poll under the Accord Party (AP). The singer urged the APC to let voters decide the election, not political tricks.

He made these comments on his X page on Thursday. This was in response to the shooting and hospitalisation of Asimiyu “Baba Isila” Isila, the Chairman of Osogbo Local Government.

A screenshot shared by Davido showed that gunmen shot Baba Isila and his associates on Wednesday night. They were rushed to the hospital for treatment after the attack.

“Ballot papers, not weapons”

Davido reacted by urging the APC to avoid adding to Nigeria's insecurity. He wrote, “Regardless of our political differences, everyone must make sure they are not contributing to insecurity in our nation. The attack on the Chairman of the Accord Party in Osogbo Local Government Area by political hoodlums must be condemned and rejected by all.

“If APC is sure they are popular, let’s settle this with ballot papers, not guns or weapons.”

Appointment

PREMIUM TIMES earlier reported that Mr. Adeleke appointed Davido as the Head of Youth Mobilisation for his re-election campaign. Confirming the appointment, Davido said he is excited to work with his team for a successful campaign.

This newspaper also reported that the 33-year-old singer joined the campaign and got his party membership card in the state. The upcoming election will test Mr. Adeleke's popularity after he was elected in 2022 under the Peoples Democratic Party.

Roles

Davido was a key player in the 2022 campaign that brought his uncle to power. His renewed support seems aimed at securing youth backing and using his celebrity status as the election approaches.

Davido has always backed Mr. Adeleke’s political ambitions since his time in the PDP. In 2022, he was very active during the campaign, both in person and online.

He also criticized alleged electoral fraud during the election period. He used his X page to urge the Independent National Electoral Commission and the late President Muhammadu Buhari not to interfere with the election results.

Reactions

Meanwhile, Davido’s comments about the APC and its alleged role in the attack have sparked various reactions among Nigerians.
