Nigerian comedian Aderombi Adedayo Martins, also known as DeeOne, is now among the entertainers running for office in the upcoming elections.
The former BBNaija contestant is the ‘Because Of Our Tomorrow’ (BOOT) Party candidate for Ibeju-Lekki Constituency I in the Lagos State House of Assembly election.
Right now, Fatai Mojeed (APC) represents Ibeju-Lekki Constituency I. He is also the Deputy Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly.
The BOOT Party, where DeeOne is running, got official recognition from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on 25 September 2019. This came after the party won a federal court order that stopped its deregistration.
In May, the BOOT Party shared ticket prices. Sunny Adenuga, the party’s National President, said candidates wanting State House of Assembly seats need to pay N100,000 for the Expression of Interest form. They also pay ₦250,000 for the party’s ‘Trust Before Ticket’ fee.
DeeOne joins other entertainers like Doris Ogala, Emeka Ike, and actress Esther Okereke, who have also secured tickets from various political parties.
DeeOne's Announcement
The comedian shared his success in the primaries through an Instagram post.
“I want to thank my party, BOOT party, for the confidence in voting for me to emerge the winner of the primaries election for Ibeju Lekki constituency 1.
“To the Ibeju Lekki constituency 1, come 2027 by the grace of God, I will be your worker and not your boss,” he wrote.
He also mentioned that the party has chosen the ruling party’s President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as its presidential candidate.
Since this announcement, his Instagram followers have had mixed feelings about his candidacy.
