The 2025/26 Premier League season has just ended, but there is no rest for English football. The league is diving into a busy summer filled with a FIFA World Cup, transfer moves, fixture announcements, and European matches all packed into a tight schedule.
Our reporter found this update on the EPL website on Wednesday.
The journey to the 2026/27 season will kick off in early June with the Premier League’s Annual General Meeting (AGM). Newly promoted Coventry City, Ipswich Town, and Hull City will officially join the league's top teams.
These teams replace Wolverhampton Wanderers, Burnley, and West Ham United, who were relegated this season.
Next, all eyes turn to North America as the FIFA World Cup starts on 11 June. The tournament will take place in the United States, Mexico, and Canada.
The expanded 48-team competition will continue until 19 July, with players from Premier League clubs representing their nations.
Mexico will kick off the tournament against South Africa in Mexico City.
While the World Cup grabs global attention, Premier League clubs will not be idle.
The summer transfer window opens on 15 June. This is when clubs can officially sign new players as they prepare for the new season.
Just four days later, fans will see the full fixtures for the 2026/27 Premier League season on 19 June.
All 380 matches will be available at 10:00 BST, allowing clubs and fans to plan ahead.
This announcement is especially exciting for Coventry City, who return to the Premier League for the first time since the 2000/01 season after winning the Championship under Frank Lampard.
As the World Cup reaches its final stages, Premier League players not participating will return to training in early July.
Pre-season activities will heat up later in July, with clubs going on tours and playing friendly matches worldwide.
Manchester United will play Wrexham in Helsinki on 18 July. Liverpool will tour the United States, and Chelsea will take on Tottenham Hotspur in Australia.
The first trophy of the new domestic season will be contested on 16 August when Premier League champions Arsenal face FA Cup winners Manchester City in the FA Community Shield.
Due to events at Wembley Stadium, this match will take place at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium.
European competitions will follow quickly after that.
Aston Villa already has a spot in the UEFA Super Cup on 12 August, where they will face Paris Saint-Germain, the UEFA Champions League winners.
Brighton & Hove Albion will also start their UEFA Conference League journey in the playoff round later in August.
The 2026/27 Premier League season will officially begin on 22 August, a week later than usual to accommodate the summer World Cup.
League officials say this schedule allows for an 89-day break from the end of the previous season and 33 days from the World Cup final, giving players some extra recovery time.
The summer's last major deadline occurs on 1 September when the transfer window closes at 23:00 BST.
By this time, most clubs will have already played two league matches, marking the end of a busy period that promises excitement on and off the field.
For Premier League clubs and fans, one thing is clear: the season may have ended, but football never really stops.
